High up on the mountain at the summit cross after climbing with a view of the wide landscape. A strenuous climb that costs me energy. A lot of Germans at the top. Under the cross with a view into the distance, I begin the painting. First I paint in red and turquoise, because I feel compelled to use these colours, although I can't explain it logically. Then I mix the colours, also with yellow. Later I see that I have painted the rock and the vastness. / Hoch oben auf dem Berg beim Gipfelkreuz nach Besteigung mit Blick in die weite Landschaft. Anstrengender Aufstieg, der mich Kraft kostet. Oben lauter Deutsche. Unter dem Kreuz mit Blick in die Weite beginne ich das Bild. Ich male zuerst in Rot und Türkis, weil es mich drängt, diese Farben zu verwenden, obwohl ich es mir nicht logisch erklären kann. Ich mische dann die Farben, auch mit Gelb. Später sehe ich, dass ich den Fels gemalt habe und die Weite.
The village of Cassis from memory: Because the Montagne Sainte-Victoire was shrouded in fog, we spontaneously drove to the Mediterranean. With heavy backpacks, we wandered in vain in great heat through the narrow streets of Cassis, which wind in terraces along the hill on which Cassis is built. But we didn't get to the spot we had previously seen from a mountain, and where I wanted to paint. In the evening, I painted spontaneously and without a plan in the hotel room. The painting reminds me of Cassis with the heat, the flowery scents and the winding streets. / Der Ort Cassis aus der Erinnerung: Weil die Montagne Sainte-Victoire in Nebel gehüllt war, fuhren wir spontan ans Mittelmeer. Mit schwerem Rucksack wanderten wir vergeblich in großer Hitze durch die schmalen Straßen von Cassis, die sich terrassenförmig den Hügel entlang winden, auf den Cassis gebaut ist. Wir kamen aber nicht an die Stelle, die wir zuvor von einem Berg gesehen hatten, und an der ich malen wollte. Am Abend malte ich spontan und ohne Plan im Hotelzimmer. Das Bild erinnert an Cassis mit der Hitze, den Blütendüften und den gewundenen Straßen.

I paint on the descent. / Blick auf die Montagne Sainte-Victoire, gemalt in der Wildnis nahe dem Haus Bret: Wir klettern auf kleinen Pfaden auf den Felsen, verirren uns auf Zufahrten zu Anwesen und werden von Mauern aufgehalten. Ich male beim Abstieg.
